Ministry to punish late submission of 2012 regional budgets

padangekspres.net-The Finance Ministry will punish local administrations that fail to submit this year’s regional budgets on time by withholding 25 percent of their General Allocation Funds (DAU), an official said Monday.
Marwanto Harjowiryono, director general for fiscal balance at the ministry, said that at least 63 local administrations had yet to submit their budgets.
He added that the ministry will send warning letters to all of those regions to submit the budgets before March 20.
“If they fail to send us their 2012 budgets on time, we will withhold 25 percent of their monthly General Allocation Funds,” Marwanto said on Monday as quoted by kontan.co.id.

He said the sanction was in line with Law No 34/2004 on fiscal balance between central government and local administrations. He stressed that the central government would release the sanction after the regional administrations finalized their budgets.
For 2012, there were 524 budgets that local administrations had to send to the Finance Ministry. Kontan.co.idreported that 461 local administrations had submitted their budgets to the ministry. (asa)
