Airport closed after Batavia Air plane skids off runway

Sepinggan International Airport in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, was closed for two hours on Monday after a Batavia Air plane carrying 176 Chinese tourists skidded off runway upon landing.
The Airbus-320 plane was headed to Hangzhou, China, from Denpasar, Bali.
“The plane overshot the runway on landing. It should have turned onto the taxiway before reaching the end of the runway,” the airport’s duty manager, Indarto, said as quoted by Antara newsagency.
He said the airport was closed from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. local time.
