Padangekspres.net-Several bridges in East Java need serious attention and maintenance
following the latest incident in East Kalimantan where a suspension
bridge collapsed.
According to the authorities in East Java, many of the bridges are under the administration of the central government.
One of the bridges that requires serious attention is Sembayat Bridge in Bungah sub-district, Gresik.
The traffic of heavy load crossing this 350 meter bridge that connects Gresik-Lamongan might reduce its bolts' strength.
“Due
to load and vibration, the bolts can lose its strength. This is what
we monitor and maintain each year,” said Chief of Bina Marga Public Work
of East Java Province, Dachlan Karim, on Tuesday, Nov 29.
Bina
Marga East Java focuses their priority on the second pillar of the
bridge from the direction of Gresik to Lamongan. “There is a damaged
joint and the repair work can only be done at night. However, from the
construction point of view, the bridge is still strong. However, it
needs special attention,” he said.
He admitted that the recurring problem on the bridges has been unattached bolts.
Dachlan added that most of the vulnerable bridges are under the authority of central government, including the repair budget.
For
repairing bridges, Dachlan said the local administration depends on the
central government, which is not sufficient. While in East Java’s
Budget 2012, Bina Marga General Work receives Rp 603 billion in
fundings. For bridges maintenance work, Rp 10 billion is budgeted.
The following are those bridges in East Java that are considered in “critical” condition:
1. Semampir Bridge, Kediri Town, condition: since 2009, the supporting pillar is hanging up to 14 cm.
2. Kali Brantas Bridge, Nganjuk, condition: shifting foundation.
3. Total Tarik Bridge, Mojokerto, condition: critical foundation due to illegal sand mining.
4. Gajahmada Bridge, Mojokerto, condition: critical foundation due to illegal sand mining.
5. Lespadangan Bridge, Mojokerto, condition: critical foundation due to illegal sand mining.
6. Wringinanom Bridge, Probolinggo, condition: eroded by cold lava flood from Bromo-Semeru.
7. Suramadu Bridge, condition: many bridge components are stolen.
8. Sembayat Bridge, Gresik, condition: damaged iron joints, heavy vehicle load.
