Drug trial starts for Rano Karno’s son

Padangekspres.net-The narcotics trial of Raka Widyarma, the foster son of Banten Deputy Governor Rano Karno, began on Tuesday at the Tangerang District Court.

Prosecutors Riyadi, Putri Ayu and Syamsuardi told the panel of judges at the court that Raka, 20, and his friend, model Karina Andetia, 21, were guilty of possessing five ecstasy pills that they ordered from Malaysia.

The defendants were charged with violating Articles 111,113,114 and 127 of the Criminal Code on drug abuse, and not under the 2009 Law on Narcotics, as the police announced after their arrest.

The pair may be sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment and to pay Rp 10 billion (US$1.06 million) in fines if found guilty.

Raka and Karina ordered the ecstasy pills through an air cargo service in Malaysia on March 4, prosecutors said.

“They testified that they waited for the package and admitted that they ordered the package. The officers immediately arrested them,” prosecutor Riyadi said.

Raka and Karina declined to contest the prosecutors’ sentencing demand.

The presiding judge, Dahel K Sandan, then adjourned the proceedings until next Tuesday.
