Minister, Governor visit Pondok Labu flood

Padang ekspres.net-Coordinating Public Welfare Minister Agung Laksono and Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo visited the inundated areas of Pondok Labu in Cilandak, South Jakarta on Monday, vowing that the government would try their best to stop the flooding.
“The Governor and I did not only come here just to see the conditions, but to think about the possible solution,” Agung said as quoted by kompas.com.
Agung acknowledged that the narrowing of the Krukut River was the main cause of the flood. Thus, Agung said that the government should build a dam as soon as possible.
Cilandak district head Sayid Ali said the river was once 6 meters wide but now had only a width of 2 meters.
Fauzi said that the Jakarta administration had prepared 9,000 square meters of land near the river for construction of the dam, but still needed another 1.6 hectares.

Due to the flooding in Pondok Labu, a total of 239 families were evacuated on Sunday when 2-meter-high floodwaters submerged their homes.
On Monday morning, however, the waters receded to half a meter, prompting the evacuees to return to the area to commence cleanup efforts.
