Don’t underestimate floods in Jakarta, warns SBY

Padangnews.com-President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has urged Vice President Boediono to remind Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo to quickly address the issue of flooding in the Pondok Labu area of South Jakarta.

Yudhoyono urged the governor not to underestimate the floods, particularly given the recent problems other Southeast Asian countries are facing, in particular Thailand.

“I heard that the floods in South Jakarta had been resolved,” Yudhoyono said Monday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com before his departure to France to attend UNESCO meetings and the G-20 Summit.


Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo, meanwhile, said the government had prepared a long-term plan to deal with the flood problem in Pondok Labu.

“We will build a dam in the area and the land acquisition will begin next year,” he said.
