80 Pediatricians Discuss Maternal and Child Health

Padangekspres.net-A total of 80 pediatricians who are members of the Indonesian Pediatric Association (IDAI) from all over Indonesia to discuss maternal and child health issues in a seminar at the Padang, June 30 until July 1, 2012. 

"The meeting will be widely presented problems that occur when these children," Chairman IDAI West Sumatra Dr. Aumas Pabuti, SpA said in Padang on Saturday. 

The most prominent issue for children is still high infant mortality rate, she said. Aumas Pabuti, SpA on the sidelines of the seminar with the theme of "Improving Health Care Quality and Scope of Indonesia Through Children''s Pediatricians and Child Feeding". 

"The infant mortality rate has become one of the issues to be discussed. Therefore the numbers must be reduced," he said. 

Nationally, child mortality, according to Aumas Pabuti infants, and neonatal continued to decline. Under-five mortality decreased from 97 in 1991 to 44 per 1,000 live births (KH) in 2007 (IDHS). 

The infant mortality rate, decreased from 68 to 34 per 1. 000 KH in the same period. Neonatal mortality rate decreased from 32 to 19 deaths per 1000 KH. 

While the targets of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015 is 32/1000 KH for five mortality rate and 23 per 1000 KH for infant mortality. "While infant mortality in West Sumatra is still 28 per 1000 live births," Aumas Pabuti said. 

He said, to reach the MDGs set, IDAI ready to cooperate with all parties concerned. As the provincial health department, county / city, midwives and other health workers. 

"There must be an active participation of all parties to reduce infant mortality," he said. 

He added, IDAI as an organization in the health of children every year always has a new science, in addressing the problems of children in Indonesia. 

Varieties of his knowledge of the pediatricians were applied to the society. The goal is to create an intelligent child and a healthy Indonesia. 

"IDAI always monitor the progress and problems of children that occur in every province, the issue is always discussed to get the best solution," Aumas said, who is also Managing Director of Dr M. Djamil Padang Hospital. 

Meanwhile, Head of Health Services, Public Health Service in West Sumatera, Lili Grasiani said based on data from the Faculty of Medicine Andalas University Padang in 2007 where the rate of infant mortality in West Sumatera as many as 28 people from a thousand births. 

"The number is quite high when referring to the MDGs as many as 23 babies," he said. 
High infant mortality rate, according to Lili Grasiani, many factors are including lack of understanding about the mother''s nutrition, as well as a shortage of pediatricians. 

"As many as 44 people a pediatrician in West Sumatra is not sufficient to serve the public health problems of mothers and children," Lili Grasiani said. 

He added, West Sumatra Health Office has prepared a staff pediatrician to address the deficiencies that occur in some areas in West Sumatera.
