Padangekspres.net-More Indonesian airlines have intended to add medium-type aircrafts with 100 seats to their fleets following the solid growth in the aviation industry.
To date, the crashed Sukhoi Superjet-100 as the capacity of 98 seats including those in the pilot cabin.
“There has been a very tight game on the jet 100 class for the past three years,” Commissioner of PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines (MNA), Said Didu, told VIVAnews on Thursday.
Didu said that at least three aircraft manufacturers have started to penetrate into the Indonesian market such as China's Xi'an Aircraft International Coorporation (XIAC), America's Embraer S.A (Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica, S.A) - world’s fourth largest aircraft manufacturer that have sold at least eight executive aircrafts with ranges of prices between US$9.5 million and US$54 million, and Canada's Bombardier Aerospace, which has signed a procurement agreement of 18 units of CRJ 1000 NextGen aircraft.
According to Didu, the growing business of mid-size jets is in line with the national airlines’ demand of aircrafts with higher efficiency level. Moreover, these mid-size jets can also explore remote areas inaccessible by wide-bodied jets.
“These 100 seat-type jets do take one hour flying distance, but they can do round-trips many times,” he said.
