Padangekspres.net-A coordination meeting held by the Ministry of People's Welfare which discussed the preparation of the Draft Bill (RPP) on restricted level of addictive substances in tobacco today has agreed on the points of health warning, arrangement and cramping of tobacco-related ads, and construction of non-smoking areas.
“In an effort to protect the public from the dangers of addictive substances, we have agreed that in every cigarette package, written or visual warning is included, covering 40% of areas of a cigarette pack,” said Coordinating Minister of People’s Welfare, Agung Laksono, who chaired the meeting.
Meanwhile, in relation with any advertisement of tobacco-related products, limitations and control will be applied. For example, cigarette image is not allowed to be in display. Cigarette brand is still possible to appear.
“For outdoor ads, restriction will also be applied for up to a maximum area of 72 sqm,” said Agung.
Moreover, for non-smoking areas, the government has provided special smoking areas within the non-smoking areas.
“It’s related to the latest Constitutional Court’s verdict which emphasizes the availability of smoking area in every public spot. So, there’s justice for smokers and non-smokers so as not to disturb each other,” explained Agung.
The public places that will become non-smoking areas will be ruled by each local government. “However, it doesn’t mean that the non-smoking areas set up by the Local Regulations are eliminated,” he said.
Agung said the Draft Bill will make possible the availability of spaces for tobacco sellers at designated locations.
“There are no restrictions [of tobacco's selling]. So, tobacco farmers shouldn’t be worried,” said Agung.
