Solar storm will not affect Indonesia

Padangekspres.net-The largest solar storm in five years was due to arrive on Earth early Thursday (Friday afternoon in Indonesia -Ed), promising to shake the globe’s magnetic field while expanding the Northern Lights. The storm started with a massive solar flare earlier in the week and grew as it raced outward from the sun, expanding like a giant soap bubble, scientists said quoted by the Associated Press. When it strikes, the particles will be moving at 6.5 million km/h.

Solar storm had affected electrical system on 1989 and 2000 in high latitudes countries, such as Canada. How about Indonesia? “This phenomenon will not have great impact to Indonesia. The cycle dues to peak at 2013,” the Deputy of Aerospace Science, Assessment, and Information in National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (Lapan), Thomas Djamaluddin, said on Thursday.
The middle scale solar storm could disrupt satellite operation, such as communication. If the satellite operator could not overcome the disruption, the using of cellular phone, television, and banking system would be disrupted. But the solar radiation will not affect directly to human beings. The effect will be most intense in polar region.
