padangekspres.net-A team of lawyers representing gang leader John Kei came to the Jakarta Police headquarters on Monday, demanding that the police return John to the National Police’s Dr. Sukanto Hospital in East Jakarta for treatment.
“John has not fully healed yet and has not received any special treatment for his wounds here at the detainment center. The wound is getting worse due to his high blood sugar level,” John’s lawyer, Indra S. Lubis, told reporters.
John was transferred to the city police headquarters on Friday, after receiving treatment for several weeks at the hospital. He has been detained at the narcotics directorate’s detainment center ever since.
“The police are not being professional, and even inhuman, by holding John here and denying any treatment for him,” Indra said.
Separately, police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto denied the allegations that the police denied treatment for John.
“[John] is still under treatment from police doctors from the city police headquarters. If more treatment is necessary, we will call doctors from the National Police’s hospital,” he said.
John was shot in the leg by police during his arrest last month. The police named him as suspect in the murder of businessman Tan Harry Tantono on Jan. 26.
John is suing the Jakarta Police over his arrest, which he claims violated various procedures.
A set of pre-trial hearings on John’s lawsuit had been held at the South Jakarta District Court over the past week. The court is expected to come up with a verdict on Tuesday.
