Padangekspres.net-The Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) has decided to increase
the number of club participants in the new Indonesian league from 18
to 24.
The decision was made during a meeting of the PSSI executive committee in Jakarta, which concluded early on Thursday morning.
“We
will keep the one-zone format for the competition, as mandated by the
Bali congress. However, according to [regulations], the
executive committee has the right to determine the number of clubs, the
maximum being 24,” PSSI chairman Djohar Arifin Husin said after the
meeting.
The 24 clubs that will take part in the upcoming league
comprise the 14 participants in the Indonesia Super League (ISL), four
promoted clubs and six new clubs appointed through a selection process
by the PSSI.
The six new clubs include Persema Malang, PSM Makassar and PSMS Medan.
“All
will have to pass the verification process by September 26 at
the latest, particularly in relation to funding and infrastructure
— mainly stadiums,” Arifin added, as quoted by Antara.
